The Return of Fordlandia
2019
I worked as an educator in the exhibition A Volta de Fordlândia , held at the Associação Fotoativa during the months of May and June 2019, receiving visitors and also scheduling university classes at the Federal University of Pará.
Thus, during the mediation, we toured the exhibition space and then did a simple activity related to one of the works on display, the work Sementes para Fordlândia, by the artist Alexandre Sequeira. One of the main guiding points of Alexandre's work is the question of otherness, the relationship with the other. The city in question is surrounded by the past of the rubber tree seeds, by the history of Henry Ford's intentions to transform the place into a latex filling station for his automobile company, creating a city in the North American molds in the middle of the Amazon. Under this context, Sementes para Fordlândia is a work conceived in a school together with the students, who are instigated to think what seeds they would like to plant. Thus, from the drawings made, Alexandre creates kinds of postcards in which the name and design of the most diverse seeds are found, such as the seed of friendship and love.
In view of this, the action developed with the scheduled visitation classes consisted, first, that students write on a paper the seeds they would like to plant for their future, which need not necessarily be plantable seeds on the ground, but could also be feelings. Therefore, they should describe them in as much detail as possible, so that they later switch roles with a colleague and draw the other's seed from the narrative generated in writing. Subsequently, each one should show the designed seeds and talk about them, always giving space for the person who created the idea to express themselves. The seeds that emerged were as varied as possible, full of stories and beautiful meanings, seeds of empathy, happiness, respect, sorority, reciprocity, care, affection, among others.
