Pinhole Day Journey

2020

The Pinholeday is an international event created to promote and celebrate the art of pinhole photography. So, every year, people from all over the world are encouraged to share their visions from handcrafted photography. In Belém, this event happens with the Pinhole Day, promoted by the Associação Fotoativa in partnership with Coletivo Aparelho, which operates in the Port of Sal, a port region.

I participated as a volunteer educator in the 2017 and 2018 editions in the Associação Fotoativa and in 2019 in the Porto do Sal, which is a place where there is the simultaneous presence of urban culture and riverside culture, so the landscape and sound that runs through the place have a direct relationship with the river.

PinholeDay Belém makes evident the importance of non-formal education, because through it, knowledge and practices reach places often not reached by schools and universities. Thus, in places like  Porto do Sal, the cultures, learning and poetics that permeate these places can be used as components of educational processes.

This event, using handcrafted photography, involves technique linked to subjectivity as a means of promoting experiences.  I stay there as an educator, guiding through the day, however, I feel that in truth it is they who teach me.
